A single-vehicle crash in Middlesex County near Saluda on Tuesday night resulted in the death of a Kilmarnock man.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya of Virginia State Police said a homeowner on Forest Chapel Road (Route 614) south of Lovers Lane Retreat, heard a crash approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday. A 2003 Ford F-150 was found Wednesday morning, occupied by a victim who had died upon impact, Anaya said. The driver was identified as Christopher Lee Cook, 35, of Kilmarnock, she said.

Anaya said that preliminary investigations reveal that the driver and sole occupant of the truck, was traveling south on Route 614 at a high rate of speed. The male driver ran off the roadway, overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross the centerline and run off the roadway, striking a tree.
