Kenneth Wayne “Kenny” Horsley, a devoted family man and talented craftsman, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026 in Riverside Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Born on November 30, 1944 in Tallahassee, Florida, Kenny lived a life marked by hard work, dedication to his loved ones, and an enduring passion for his many interests.
Kenny graduated from Gloucester High School in 1963 before continuing his education at Ferrum Junior College and Virginia Tech. His career was as diverse as it was impressive. He worked with Virginia Power and later contributed his expertise to Newport News Shipyard, Industrial Construction Corporation, Newport News Iron and Steel, Gibbs and Cox, and J.J. McMullin and Associates, where he specialized in designing ship hulls and constructing steel structures. After the passing of his beloved wife, Barbara Jean Horsley, Kenny embarked on a new chapter by founding Ken’s Lawn and Landscaping business. For 10 years, he poured his energy into this venture before retiring in 2023.
Family was at the heart of Kenny’s life. He is survived by his sister, Janice Horsley; his sons, Kevin Horsley (Lisa) and Keith Horsley (Amy); grandsons, Zack Horsley, Caleb Horsley, and Thomas Horsley; step-grandsons, Joshua McClellan, Tyler McClellan, and Travis McClellan; and his girlfriend, Becky Horsley. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Jean Horsley; his parents, Doswell S. and Louise T. Horsley; and his infant brother, Warren Lee Horsley.
Kenny found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished time spent fishing with his sons and grandsons, a pastime that brought him closer to nature and strengthened family bonds. A gifted woodworker, Kenny created beautiful furniture pieces, intricate bird carvings, and handcrafted boats that showcased his remarkable skill and attention to detail.
A viewing for Kenny Horsley was held on May 5, 2026 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Andrew’s Funeral Home, 7192 Main Street. His funeral was held at 11 a.m. on May 6, 2026 at Bellamy United Methodist Church, 4870 Chestnut Fork Road, with burial immediately following the service.
