JV Devils win, varsity girls fall to Grafton

The Mathews High School Lady Devil basketball teams split a pair of games with Grafton on Friday night, with the junior varsity girls from Mathews crushing the visiting Clippers, 19-3, and the varsity Devils falling to their 3A opponents, 47-26.

With the win, the JV girls improved to 7-5. The varsity loss dropped that team’s record to 6-4. The Lady Devils return to action tonight when they host King William, with games at 5:30 and 7 o’clock.

The JV Lady Devils entered strong competition from the Class 3A school, but Grafton only had five players suit up for the contest, and one of those players was hurt in the first half, leaving the Clippers to play down a player for the rest of the contest.
