JV Devils get first win against Charles City

The Mathews High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team had a packed schedule this week, playing four games.
Last Thursday, the homestanding Blue Devils fell to a tough Lancaster squad, 70-27. 
Will Hutcheson was the high scorer for Mathews with 10 points. Tylon Forrest, Jovan Johnson and Tyrese Brooks followed that having four points each.
The following night, Mathews hosted Charles City. The game was decided at the free throw line, where Mathews shot 56 percent, and Charles City only shot 12 percent. Mathews posted a 49-37 victory, its first win of the season.
Hutcheson went 11-12 shooting free throws, and finished with 20 points. Johnson and Brooks had eight and seven points respectively.
On Monday, the team traveled to Northumberland. Christian Williams was the high scorer for the Blue Devils with seven points, in the 73-24 loss.
