The Mathews High School had a busy week, with home games against Middlesex and West Point and the varsity girls playing in the Endless Summer volleyball tournament on Saturday. Against the visiting Chargers last Thursday, the JV and varsity Lady Devils falling to Middlesex in straight sets in both contests. The JV girls fought hard, but Middlesex won the match, 2-0. The varsity match started off strong. Middlesex slowly pulled out into the lead and won the first set, 25-17. Middlesex stayed on top for each set after. Mathews fought their hardest, but could not pull out the win. Middlesex won the next two sets, 25-10 and 25-9. Addison Griffith, Carter Hayes and Bentlea Lawrence all served an ace throughout the game for Mathews. Carter Hayes had three kills and Hailey Love had five assists. On Saturday, the MHS varsity girls traveled to Virginia Beach for the Endless Summer tourney. They faced Walsingham for their first match of the day. Hayes served two aces.
