JOHN MAHLON AMBROSE

John Mahlon Ambrose, age 75, of Gloucester, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

John served honorably in the Coast Guard, and retired from the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown.

On any day he could be found on the golf course, as he was an avid golfer. His love of sports led him to coach Little League and follow Virginia Tech and Redskins football. Before his favorite restaurant, Ocean 17, closed, he could be found in his favorite chair with his close friends, solving all the world’s problems.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John (Jack) David and Elaine Jackson Ambrose.

He is survived by his daughters, Kelli Ambrose Eastwood and her husband Jonathan, and Karen Ambrose Demyanovich and her husband Eric. Survivors also include five grandchildren, Anna, Henry, Nicholas, Garrett, and Meredith; brother, David C. Ambrose; sister, Judith (Judy) Ambrose; his loving companion, Darlene H. Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Bethany United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Arthur T. Wolz. Burial will follow at Gloucester Point Cemetery. The family received friends from 7-8:30 Wednesday evening at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
