JOHN A. CUTCHIN JR.

John A. Cutchin Jr., 92, of Virginia Beach and most recently Portsmouth, died on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Riverside’s Heron Cove in Gloucester, Va.

Mr. Cutchin was born in Isle of Wight County on October 8, 1923, to the late John Arthur and Annie Stewart Cutchin. He was a 1941 graduate of Holland High School.

A service was held June 1, 2016 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Chesapeake by the Rev. T.M. Frye.

Mr. Cutchin was a WWII veteran of the Army, 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 17th Airborne Division serving as part of Operation Varsity in Germany. He received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. John spent his career as a Field Representative for the U.S. Dept. of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training. for 38 years until he retired.

Mr. Cutchin is survived by his three children, Terrie Jolliffe and husband Richard, Nancy Horsley and husband Perry, and John Cutchin and wife Shari; a brother, “Bill” Cutchin (Ruby); a sister, Betty Starrette (Wayne); six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Minnie Jones, and his second wife, Margaret Deane; a brother, Richard Cutchin, and a sister, Anne Filer.

John was an active member of many organizations including Lifetime memberships in the DAV, Virginia Beach Power Boat Squadron, American Legion, Handyman Club of America, and the VFW. Additionally, he was a member of the Airborne Static Line, and a Civil War re-enactor with the Norfolk 6th Light Infantry of the Confederacy.
