Jamie White Callis, age 70, of Cobbs Creek, Virginia, passed from this earth to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 14, 2022. Jamie devoted much of her life to the caring of others. She studied nursing at Johnston-Willis School of Nursing where she achieved a diploma and became a Registered Nurse. She worked in many areas of the hospital, such as orthopedics, labor and delivery, operating room with the cardiac surgery team, and eventually in home health. She volunteered for the Gloucester-Mathews Free Clinic for several years. Jamie was heavily involved with the Mathews Woman’s Club and the Cobbs Creek Homemakers.

Jamie is survived by her husband, Richard Callis; son, Richard “Ricky” Callis Jr.; brothers, Charlie White (Jeanne) and Greg White (Carolyn); nephews, Lee White, Casey White, and Jared White; niece, Jennifer Friend (Scott); grand-nephews, Jackson and Ryan; grand-nieces, Addison and McInnis.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 10-11 a.m. at Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service at 11 o’clock. There will be a private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jamie’s memory to the Mathews Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 1130, Mathews, Va. 23109, the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, 94 Cricket Hill Rd., Hudgins, Va. 23076 or to the Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic, P.O. Box 684, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
