There is a community in Mathews known as Peary. The residents, both permanent and the weekenders, know how to have fun without leaving their neighborhood, gathering on special holidays or Saturday evenings.
When the occasions arise, out come the golf carts and they’re off to the hostess’s home where gourmet foods, lots of camaraderie, and sometimes games will be found. The hostess creates the menu with each guest bringing a dish.
Tina Raby and her husband Paul are an active couple in neighborhood and county activities. Moving from Fredericksburg, they became permanent residents following their retirements in 2017, but Mathews County was not new to them. Tina explained, “I’ve been coming here for 35 years. My sister was here and a brother lives at Cricket Hill. We spent two summers camping at New Point Campground.”
Tina said they remodeled their home themselves and created two fully equipped kitchens. “I love to cook and my husband always does the clean-up.” Paul is a native of England ...
