The Mathews Memorial Library Board of Trustees held its first meeting of 2026 on Tuesday, welcoming interim library director Greg Lewis, who will also continue serving as the library’s head of technology. In his first report to the board, Lewis said his goals as interim director will be to get back to basics, strengthen the library’s traditional services, provide services patrons want, and work on increasing the public’s use of the library. The theme for these goals, he said, will be “Rediscover Your Library.” “We want to draw people back in who might not have been here in a long time,” he said. Lewis said he has been asked repeatedly if he will be the new permanent director, but said emphatically that his repeated answer is “No.” Chairperson Mary Ann Carr reported that county administration had agreed to pay Lewis an additional stipend of 20 percent of the library director’s salary while he serves in that position.
