The second annual Indigenous Peoples Celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Machicomoco State Park, 3601 Timberneck Farm Road, Hayes.
The Maskapow Drum Group and Rappahannock Dance Group will perform. Educational displays will be hosted by the Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia, the Mattaponi Indian Tribe & Reservation Petition Office, the Kiskiack Chickahominy Tribe, and 13 other educational groups, including the Gloucester Master Gardeners and Middle Peninsula Master Naturalists, spread throughout the park’s interpretive trails.
There will demonstrations of flint knapping, dugout canoe burning, cordage twisting and fishing net tying among the different education stations.
The standard parking fee of $5 applies, but there is no extra fee for this event.
