Inclement weather causes road project delays

Rainy weather has delayed completion of several road improvement projects in Gloucester, state transportation officials announced last week.

Crews were scheduled to apply lane markings and shoulder stone on the Route 17 Bypass and Route 3/14 through this Saturday. Shoulder lane application and lane markings are mobile work zones, and motorists should experience only brief delays, said Kelly Hannon, a spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Meanwhile, crews anticipate paving on an approximately 4½-mile stretch of Route 17 through Saturday, Dec. 19. The paving will be done on northbound lanes of Route 17, from just north of Route 606 at Ark to about one mile north of Route 610 near Woods Cross Roads.

Crews began milling that section of Route 17 the week before Thanksgiving, and also worked last month on a milling and paving project on the entire length of Main Street.
