Importance of internet service to student success stressed at meeting

Affordable countywide broadband internet service, and its importance to student success, was brought up at the start of Tuesday’s meeting of the Mathews County School Board.

During the public comment period at the start of the meeting, which was held in the Mathews High School media center, Judy Rowe updated school board members on an effort among various community groups to provide tutoring and homework help for the division’s students.

The Grimstead resident and former MHS teacher said that an ever increasing number of groups have signed on to join the Coalition 4 Kids. While the group is working to set up a time and place for homework help and tutoring, Rowe is concerned about students having access at home to online educational resources.
