Hodges retires as MHS guidance counselor

The Mathews County School Board accepted the retirement of Linda Hodges as Mathews High School’s head guidance counselor during Tuesday night’s meeting, which was held in the MHS Media Center.

Hodges had been with the school division since 2000, having previously served as an instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University and a stint with the Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board.

The school board appointed Katelyn Dodge to fill the vacancy in the guidance department. Dodge, a graduate of Old Dominion University, was most recently employed with Gloucester County Public Schools as a long-term substitute guidance counselor.
In other action, the school board unanimously adopted a resolution asking Gov. Bob McDonnell to allocate "a fair share of the $544.8 million FY 2011 budget surplus to K-12 public education" and to begin to restore some of the cuts made in state aid over the past three years.
