Hodges, Northam win election to General Assembly

Voters in Gloucester and Mathews, along with the rest of the 98th District, overwhelmingly chose Keith Hodges of Urbanna, as its next representative to the Virginia House of Delegates.

Hodges, a Republican, captured 81 percent of the vote in Gloucester and 78 percent of the vote in Mathews in a convincing win over Democrat Andy Shoukas of Essex. The results mirrored the rest of the district, where Hodges polled at slightly over 78 percent.

In the 6th Senatorial District contest, incumbent Democrat Ralph Northam of Norfolk, won a second term, holding off Republican challenger Ben Loyola of Virginia Beach, winning by almost 4,000 votes. However, in Mathews, voters went for Loyola by a 56 percent to 44 percent margin.
