Five years ago on July 1, Helping the Homeless Thrift Store opened its doors at 7028 George Washington Memorial Highway, Gloucester, to raise funds to help the homeless population. The store celebrated its five-year anniversary all last week. “This is a big day for us,” said Pastor Wendy Roundy, founder of Helping the Homeless Ministries, during her remarks at the store on June 30. The purpose of opening Helping the Homeless Thrift Store was to raise funds to one day open Camp Restoration, a place for the homeless to stay for 12 months to get back on their feet. The goal of Camp Restoration is to have a safe place for homeless individuals to live while learning skills that will help them acquire a job and keep it, manage their money, and reach for their goals.
