The Gloucester Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing to consider amendments to the zoning ordinance related to solar energy facilities during its meeting Tuesday. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the colonial courthouse.
If approved, the amendment will add a “community-scale solar” definition to the ordinance and will restrict community and utility-scale solar facilities to the county’s Rural Countryside and Suburban Countryside districts. In those districts, a conditional use permit is required for the construction of solar facilities.
In addition to the restrictions, the amendment will include general requirements for all solar facilities. These requirements include specific parameters for height, product safety, setbacks, screenings, and a site concept plan.
