Hayes couple starts venture to provide for K-9 service animals

Tina and Thomas Edens of Hayes have started a new business with hopes of giving back to both two- and four-legged service personnel. Their venture, which is called K-9 Rucksack 911, allows customers to send care packages to police and military K-9 units stationed in the U.S. and overseas.

Care packages include dog grooming items, leashes, collars and other necessities that state police agencies often expect handlers to furnish themselves. By providing these items to K-9 units, the Edens couple hopes to help handlers and their dogs alike.

While the venture is rather new, having just completed its first month of operation, the Edenses plan to host fundraisers in the near future to allow the business to serve more K-9 units and handlers. This venture is currently listed as a business; however, the couple plans to transition to nonprofit status in the near future.
