Hawkwatch

The Middle Peninsula Bird Club joined members of the Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory on Thursday, March 21 (https://vawildliferesearch.org) for the annual College Creek Spring Hawkwatch on the shore of the James River across from Hog Island. The Hawkwatch is conducted by CVWO from March 1 to May 31. During Hawkwatch season at the Colonial Parkway site, observers typically see over 2,000 migrating raptors. On March 21, seven species of raptors were seen migrating north across the James River with a total of 153 raptors counted. Turkey vultures were the highest count at 137.
