HARRY R. JORDAN

Harry R. Jordan of Gloucester Point, passed peacefully on to meet his master on Monday, June 18, 2018. He was born Dec 13, 1926, and was the youngest of three sons born to Joseph H. Jordan and Beuna V. Midgett. 

Harry graduated first in his class at Achilles High School and entered the U.S. Army Air Force on June 6, 1944. He left the service in 1946 and married Esther Marie Hall. Harry then enrolled in engineering at Virginia Tech and graduated in 1949. He immediately went to work for a newly organized engineering Laboratory at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown. He remained at NWS for his entire civil service career and progressed to be the Director of the Laboratory, with annexes at Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Jacksonville, Florida. Harry retired from public service in 1984.

Harry spent his retirement building furniture, golfing, and raising azaleas. He became very interested in researching genealogy and compiled two books: “Cemeteries of Gloucester County through 1995.”

Harry is survived by his wife of 71 years, Esther Marie; two daughters, Norma Baker (Kris), Harriet Jordan; two grandchildren, Jordan Baker and Karter Baker (Lindsay), and two great- grandchildren, Macie and Jax.

Family will receive guests at Hogg Funeral Home from 2-2:45 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018, followed by a graveside service at 3 o’clock at Gloucester Point Cemetery, 1860 Hayes Road, Gloucester Point, with the Rev. Arthur Wolz Jr. conducting.
