Hammie Lee Rowe (Johnny Rat) of Gloucester, died May 17, 2018. He has gone to rest after a long hard fight with cancer. He loved his family, friends, bowling, Nascar and operating heavy equipment.
He was preceded in death by a son, Hammie L. Rowe Jr.; a daughter, Wanda Lynn Rowe; his beloved grandson, Travis Lee Marshall, and a sister, Frances Brock.
Those left to miss him are his wife, Grace “Red,” sparring partner of nearly 57 years; his daughter, Carolyn Marshall; beloved granddaughter, Ericka M. Darr (Chad); three great-grandchildren that were the light in his eyes, Anthony (Kaitlen) Darr, Joshua Darr and Brooke Darr; great-great-grandson, Easton Lee Darr; two sisters (he called them Non-Sisters), Mamie Rush and Liz Brownie (Jim); his brother, Morgan Rowe (Linda); and a host of extended family, nieces, nephews, wonderful friends and our bowling family at Village Lanes.
The family received friends Sunday, May 20, 2018, from 5-6:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
A funeral service conducted by the Rev. John Downs was held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2018, at Hogg Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. Following the interment the family joined for a celebration of “Mr. Happy’s” life at Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church, to share stories, fellowship, memories, love and good food.
