This weekend’s 34th annual Guinea Jubilee is expected to draw thousands from near and far to celebrate the rich and unique heritage of Gloucester’s Guinea Neck.

The annual festival will be held Friday and Saturday on the grounds of the Abingdon Ruritan Club in Bena.

Tara Thomas, who co-chairs the festival with her husband Brook, said if the Jubilee poster unveiling and pageant that was held earlier this month is any indication of how many will attend the festival, the crowds should be huge.

According to Thomas, 150 people attended the unveiling and another 130-140 additional people attended the pageant. "We were very pleased," she said.

Thomas said visitors can expect the same traditions they have found in previous festivals. There will be a new band this year: The Janitors will take the stage Friday night and The Crazy X Band will perform Saturday.

This year, she said, the car show has been graciously taken over by the Middle Peninsula Classic Cruisers. "We&rsq...
