Grand reopening planned for Gloucester hair salon

Mane Street Hair Retreat opened for business last winter, had to close for a few months, and recently reopened.

A grand reopening celebration for the shop, located on Gloucester’s Main Street, will be held the first weekend in April in conjunction with this year’s Daffodil Festival, said owner Mary Nelson of Saluda.

Besides reopening her shop, Nelson said, she recently hired Akyra Roane as a stylist.

Roane, who is originally from Gloucester, said she offers “multi-cultural hair” services such as haircuts, perms, relaxers, conditioning treatments and coloring. A popular trend, she said, is use of dimensional color and more vibrant shades. Before joining Nelson’s staff, Roane was a stylist at the Smart Style salon in Gloucester Walmart. She worked there for 4½ years and was recognized with a President’s Club award by parent Regis Corporation.

A graduate of Gloucester High School, Roane attended the cosmetology program there.
