Grand opening next week for Mathews art gallery

Mathews Country Galleria, located on Brickbat Road in space that once housed a bar, will hold its grand opening from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30.

Dara LeBlanc-Haynes, who owns the business with her husband Richard F. Haynes, said the opening will include wine, cheese, smoked oysters, fruit and other snacks, as Mathews residents and those from nearby communities get the opportunity to see the county’s newest art gallery.

The name was selected, Dara said, to feature the quality artwork of those from Mathews and nearby. In addition, the “Country” in the gallery name captures the natural beauty of this region.

Dara said the gallery features both artwork she and her husband have made and consignment pieces. Dara paints in oils, while Richard makes carved pieces and takes photographs.

Most of the consigned items are from newer local artists, Dara said, but paintings by well-known artist Thomas Kinkade are also on display. All items are available for purchase. Dara said ...
