Governor’s School students present research projects at VCU

The Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School for Marine and Environmental Science hosted its 15th Annual Science Symposium at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond on Saturday, March 10.

During the morning session, 65 high school seniors presented their independent research projects. The projects were judged by visiting members of the scientific community from the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Rappahannock Community College, and others.

During the afternoon session, Dr. Jeremy Hoffman, a climate earth scientist at the Science Museum of Virginia, gave the keynote address, “Growing Up in the Anthropocene.” Dr. Hoffman spoke on the transition into the Anthropocene as evidenced by worldwide impacts of human society such as plastic waste in remote areas of the globe and climate change.
