Gloucester’s reassessment delayed one year

Gloucester’s next general reassessment will be delayed by one year due to the resignation of former county assessor Derek Green.

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors voted 6-0 during its Nov. 7 meeting in the colonial courthouse to postpone the effective date of the reassessment from Jan. 1, 2019 to Jan. 1, 2020. The vote came after a public hearing on the matter; however, no citizens spoke on the delay.

“While the county is actively recruiting for a replacement, it is not likely that any incoming assessor would be willing or able to sign and certify an assessment that they had not played a lead role in developing,” said county administrator Brent Fedors. 

Green resigned at the end of September to take a position as assessor for the City of Williamsburg, which is closer to his home.
