Gloucester Treasurer’s Office institutes new payment process

A new credit card/e-check payment system for Gloucester County taxpayers went into effect last week, according to Gloucester County Treasurer Tara Thomas.

The new online payment process was designed to ease the burden on customers, Thomas said. The new system utilizes a local bank for processing, which provided an opportunity for a reduction in fees.

Fees for in-person and online credit card payments are reduced from 3 percent to 2.5 percent, and the $2.50 fee for online e-check payments has been eliminated.

The Gloucester County Treasurer’s Office is currently working through Chesapeake Bank for the new services. Thomas reminds customers that the reduced fees apply to in-office and online payments only. The previous processor, Official Payments, will still need to be used for telephone payments, and the original fee structure will apply.
