Gloucester sign ordinance sent on to supervisors

After working on revisions of the county’s sign ordinance off and on for several years, the Gloucester County Planning Commission voted Thursday night to recommend that the ordinance be sent to the county supervisors for their consideration.

Planning director Anne Ducey-Ortiz said key changes are that temporary signs will be allowed for businesses in certain districts, while no off-premises signs will be allowed for businesses.

As recommended by the commission, temporary signs will be allowed in the B-1 (general business) B-3 (office business) and B-4 (rural business) districts. As recommended, the signs could be placed for a maximum of 30 days at a time, with the signs to be allowed a total of 120 days a year.

The commission has recommended that one on-premise and one free-standing sign be allowed for each business, with minimum setback reduced to 10 feet from right-of-way if consistent with height for a monument sign.
