A special memorial service is scheduled in Gloucester Sunday night to mark the 10th anniversary and remember those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America.

A group of local churches, backed by the Together for Christ ministry alliance, as well as the Gloucester High School ROTC program, will host a community-wide, interdenominational service at 6:30 p.m. at the Gloucester High School stadium. The program will be moved to the school’s auditorium in the event of bad weather.

Event spokesperson Seth Craig said participants will light approximately 3,000 luminaries to honor those who lost their lives in the attacks on New York and Washington, D.C., and in the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pa.

Virginia Delegate Harvey Morgan (R-Middlesex) will give the invocation. Gloucester sheriff Steve Gentry is expected to give a welcome and different groups from various local churches will participate with songs and messages, Craig said...
