The Gloucester County School Board authorized a professional day Monday for all county public schools, meaning they will be closed that day to students. Administrators and teachers will attend to make plans in preparation for a potential school division closure due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. “We’re not at that point yet,” school division superintendent Walter Clemons told the board regarding a lengthier shutdown of schools. “Right now I think we feel like we just want to be safe.” Professional staff will be planning how to deliver instruction, in case of a shutdown. The board also canceled any activities outside of the regular instructional day until further notice. All field trips, athletic events and other after school activities are temporarily suspended and there will be no after-school community use of buildings.
