Gloucester Rotary raises over $18,000 at pig roast

Gloucester Rotary Club raised over $18,000 during its 41st annual Gloucester Rotary Pig Roast, held Friday at the Ware River Yacht Club. The funds will go back into the community in the form of donations to local organizations and its community service projects.
During the pig roast, Monique Raposa was presented with the Paul Harris Fellow award for being a community leader. She is the former director of the Bread for Life Community Food Pantry.
“We volunteer there twice a month,” said rotary president Nancy Dykeman about the food pantry.
The rotary club has a busy fall ahead with the Gloucester Mathews Care Clinic roof repair project and construction of a new trail at Machicomoco State Park.
“We like to stay busy,” said Dykeman.
The club will also be taking part in a free rabies clinic on Nov. 1 at Gloucester High School from 1-3 p.m. This event will be held in partnership with Gloucester County Animal Control and Gloucester Veterinary Hospital.
