Gloucester powerlifting teen continues to set records

Ryker Sharp, the 15-year-old Gloucester weightlifter, continues to set records. On Saturday, he competed in the 2019 USA Powerlifting Holiday Havoc Competition in Manassas. At this competition, Sharp was able to break records that he had set back in September.

Currently, Sharp is the Virginia state powerlifting record holder for his age and weight category. At Holiday Havoc, he posted a combined weight of 1,213 lbs. The weight is the sum of the total weight from squat (441 lbs.), deadlift (496 lbs.), and paused bench (275 lbs.).

The numbers he posted individually have confirmed his ability to compete in May 2020 at the High School Nationals in Texas. There, Sharp will face high school students from around the country. The competition will be greater, but given his track record, Sharp stands to only add to his name.  ...
