The Gloucester County Branch of the NAACP recently announced the launch of Pathways to Leadership, a new civic education initiative designed to empower residents with the knowledge and confidence to engage in local government.
This multi‑session program is designed to provide accessible, community‑centered instruction on how government works and how citizens can become involved in local civic activities.
The first session, “Understanding Government: From National to Local,” will be held from 6-7 p.m. next Thursday, March 26, at The First United Baptist Church, 6188 George Washington Memorial Highway, Gloucester. Doors open at 5:30. Participants will receive an overview of the structure and responsibilities of government at every level, including how federal, state and local systems operate, how decisions are made, and how those decisions impact daily life in Gloucester County.
The opening session will be led by two educators—Dianne Carter de Mayo, 2025-2026 Gloucester High School Teacher of the Year; and Warren Zuger, retired GHS teacher and former president of the Gloucester Education Association.
Pathways to Leadership is open to all residents, students, families and community members interested in learning more about civic processes, public leadership and opportunities for engagement. Sessions will be offered in both in‑person and virtual formats to ensure broad access.
Additional sessions will feature local officials, government professionals, and civic leaders who will provide practical insight into public service, community advocacy, and leadership pathways.
