Gloucester NAACP holds Community Health Fair

The Gloucester Branch of the NAACP held its first Community Health Fair on Saturday at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. The event featured a vaccination clinic, Riverside’s mammogram van and representation from local groups and organization to provide information to those who attended the event. NAACP branch president Brenda Dixon said planning for the event started in October 2021. The event was the organization’s way of providing healthcare and resources to all people of different backgrounds and age groups, especially in the African American community. The event’s keynote speaker was Dr. Vanessa Walker-Harris, the Director for the Office of Family Health Services for the Virginia Department or Health. Walker-Harris spoke on the importance of maintaining personal and community health through regular checkups, proper nutrition and trusting one’s body to preventative measures for a lot of health risks such as heart disease and diabetes.
