Visitors coming to Gloucester County’s official government website will be greeted with a new look come Tuesday. The site, which is currently managed mostly by the county’s information technology department, has been undergoing a major renovation.
The new site will appear more modern and will be more consistent and user-friendly, according to Richard Erwin, Gloucester’s director of information technology. He said the site will also be more cost-effective for the county, as it minimizes and eliminates local webmaster administration, development and scripting tasks, freeing up IT resources.
The new site will also be cloud-hosted. This will allow the backend server hardware and software maintenance to be eliminated. Erwin said representatives from each county department have been trained to update content on each department’s webpage.
According to Erwin, the website will be accessible to those who have disabilities that impact their web browsing. It will be certified by “AudioEye,” which ensures accessibility improvements across a range of accessibility fronts.
“Look for a really cool, exciting website,” Erwin said. “It will make us competitive with any locality in the nation.”
“This has been a very collaborative effort,” said Brent Fedors, Gloucester’s county administrator. “Mr. Erwin and his staff went the extra mile to make sure everyone’s needs were met.
