By a 4-3 vote Monday night, the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors terminated the contract of County Administrator Carol Steele—a county employee for nearly 40 years—effective Wednesday, April 1, following its budget town hall Monday night in the T.C. Walker Education Center auditorium. Supervisor Joe Leming made the motion, seconded by Shannon Hanson, to terminate Steele’s contract. Chairman Ashley Chriscoe and member Nick Bonniville also voted in favor of terminating the contract. Vice chair Tony Nicosia and board members Chris Hutson and Dr. Robert “JJ” Orth voted against the termination. “I am deeply saddened by the turn of events that transpired on Monday night,” said Orth. “Ms. Steele was one of the most dedicated, hardworking county individuals I have met who put county needs above her own.
