The Gloucester County Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously supported allowing a microbrewery at a White Marsh restaurant during a meeting Sept. 26 in the colonial courthouse.
Mac Casale applied for a special exception to allow a microbrewery in a proposed addition to Goodfellas Restaurant on George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17). Casale is agent for tenant Constantine Tsamouras and property owner Konstantinos H. Panos.
Casale is requesting adding on to the existing Goodfellas a 30-foot by 30-foot microbrewery on the existing concrete slab footprint. The microbrewery will result in new jobs, Casale said.
“Since the property is already used as a restaurant, we anticipate no additional impact on site,” the application said. “Plus the addition does not face the street so there will be no glare issue either.”
The subject property is located at 5036 George Washington Memorial Highway, lies in the York Magisterial District and is zoned Business (B-1) and Suburban Countryside (SC-1).
On a separate application, the board voted in favor of allowing a barn-style wedding venue. Bryan D. Esplin, applicant and registered agent for Oak Bridge Meadow, LLC, property owner, sought the special exception requesting establishment of a recreation and amusement enterprise for the wedding venue.
Esplin said in his application that the open land will be farmed and the barn will be rented on weekends to host “rustic barn-style weddings.” Also, he said the barn would be rented on some weekdays for events like corporate meetings and birthday parties.
The property is an undeveloped parcel abutting 4288 Cato Drive, lies in Petsworth Magisterial District, and is zoned Rural Countryside (RC-1).
A half-dozen people spoke in favor of the barn venue during a public hearing, while two spoke against, planner Tripp Little said.
