Though the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors took no formal action when addressing the idea of opening Sundays up to hunters in the county during its meeting last Thursday night in the colonial courthouse, the issue brought impassioned arguments from both sides during citizen comment period.

Petsworth district supervisor Mike Winebarger first brought up the issue during the board’s Jan. 7 meeting, when he said he thought Sundays should stay free of hunting in the county. At that time, he desired his fellow board members to adopt a resolution to be sent to the Virginia General Assembly to encourage the state’s governing body to continue to support a ban on Sunday hunting.

However, during last Thursday’s meeting, Winebarger said he had talked to several constituents and had changed his opinion and now feels the governing body has no right to tell a man what he can to do on a Sunday.
