Gloucester apartment project offers housing for mentally disabled

The Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 9 for its Woodland Pointe Apartments project.

The new supportive housing complex is being built near the intersection of Belroi Road and Summerville Drive in Gloucester. The 12 apartment units will be available for individuals with a mental health disability who may also need a rental subsidy, according to Cindy Brown, facilities manager for the MPNN CSB.

Charles R. Walsh Jr., executive director of the MPNN CSB, said a project development team comprised of his personnel applied for a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and received notice of a $1,325,300 award to construct the 12 units in February of 2012.

The CSB also received a HUD award of $44,500 for three years, or a total of $133,500, in rental assistance funds.
