Gloucester All-Stars win state title; advance to S.E. regionals

The Gloucester All-Stars went 3-0 to win the Cal Ripken 12-year-old Major Virginia State Championship last week in South Boston, with team member Brett Lindsay named the tournament’s MVP. The Gloucester boys now head to Florida to compete in the Babe Ruth Southeastern Regional Tournament.

Gloucester won its first game of the state tournament 12-1 over Arlington last Thursday. Hunter Martin got the win on the mound and Cash Watkins threw two innings in relief. Lindsay contributed a single, a double and four RBIs while scoring three runs. Grayson Womble had a double, three RBIs and scored twice and Martin got a pair of hits and scored twice. Heath Kelley added a hit and two RBIs.

On Saturday, Gloucester blanked Rockbridge 3-0 in the semifinals with Lindsay pitching a three-hit gem and getting seven strikeouts. Lindsay also had a hit and two RBIs, Womble had a hit and one run batted in and Reese Oden contributed a hit and scored a run.
