“It’s going to be a living history performance.”
The Gloucester VA250 Committee, in partnership with the Gloucester Museum of History will be hosting, “Give Me Liberty … Raising the County Militia in 1775,” on Sunday in the colonial courthouse, beginning at 2 p.m.
“The idea is to immerse and engage the audience,” said Historic Resources Supervisor Robert Kelly of the Gloucester Museum of History. Kelly said that there will be audience participation opportunities during the performance.
Shades of Our Past, a reenactment group, has written a script that members will perform to educate those in attendance on Gloucester’s role in the American Revolution, focusing on militia rallying among the colonies in 1775.
“I’m excited about this program because it will bring history to life for people of all ages, allowing us to understand what happened in Gloucester County 250 years ago during the early days of the American Revolution,” said Kelly.
