Ken Gibson has announced his candidacy for the Petsworth District seat on the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors in the Nov. 2 election. Gibson is a partner with GibsonSingleton Virginia Injury Attorneys in Gloucester.
“Gloucester needs positive leaders who have a hopeful vision for the future of our community. I want to represent all citizens of Gloucester County and be open, transparent and responsive to the concerns of county residents,” said Gibson.
“We live in a wonderful community with kind and generous people who have good values. We get to enjoy the natural beauty of our rivers, bay and rolling farmland,” Gibson said. “Beth and I feel blessed to be raising our children in Gloucester, and we want it to remain the treasure that it is.”
“I believe that real leadership requires common-sense problem-solving rather than short-sighted decisions that hold back our community in the long run. This is exactly the kind of experience and decision-making I will bring to the job.”
“I want to spend the next few months listening to the people of Gloucester and the Petsworth District and understanding the issues that are important to them and need improvement.”
Gibson said he plans for his campaign to focus on economy, public safety, internet, education and Constitutional rights.
“Local government is important because it affects our daily lives. I will work hard to ensure that Gloucester County remains a vibrant, competitive and safe place to live, work, raise a family and retire,” he said.
Before coming to Gloucester, Gibson was a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice and earned commendation for his performance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Previously, Gibson prosecuted violent crimes cases as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Norfolk. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps and graduated from the University of Virginia and the University of South Carolina Law School.
Gibson said he serves the community through the Gloucester Point Rotary Club, where he was president and was named “Rotarian of the Year” in 2015. He also volunteers with the Middle Peninsula Bar Association and the Edge Hill House Foundation, and coaches basketball through Gloucester Parks and Recreation.
In his spare time, Gibson said he enjoys saltwater fishing, watching football and basketball, and reading military history. He also plays drums for the local rock group, The Ballast Band. Gibson and his wife, Beth, are raising 12-year-old twins, Jack and Katherine.
