The Gloucester High School track and field teams recently competed in two Peninsula District meets.
April 30
The Dukes competed at Darling Stadium, Hampton, on April 30 in the third Peninsula District meet.
The Lady Dukes dom-inated in the varsity girls’ 1,600-meter run. Avalynn Hutton took first place with a time of 5:51, followed by Rachel Blittle in second (6:19). Other runners competing included Mackenzie Alcorn (7:02), Hannah Broadwell (7:13) and Chloe Sylvester (7:17) in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Hannah Mullis placed second in the varsity girls’ shot put with a mark of 33-3.75. Brianna Peet (20-7) and Jazmine Foster (20-3.5) also competed in the event.
Zarheia Couvington took second overall in the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 14.25. Laci Austin and Kylie Fox also competed, completing the dash with times of 14.98 and 17.22, respectively.
The Lady Dukes took third overall in the varsity girls’ 4×100-meter relay with a time of 55.39.
For the boys, Hugh Davis took third place in the varsity boys’ 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:57, immediately followed by Erik Waters (5:03). Lincoln Alcorn and Ryker Jordan also competed in this event with finishing times of 5:50 and 6:06, respectively.
Gloucester placed third in the varsity boys’ 4×100-meter relay with a time of 45.43.
Xavier Johnson took fourth in the varsity boys’ triple jump with a mark of 41-0.
Maliq Jackson placed fifth overall in the varsity boys’ 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.91. Izak Smith also placed fifth in the varsity boys’ 400-meter dash with a time of 51.73.
May 7
Gloucester traveled to Todd Stadium, Newport News, to compete in the fourth Peninsula District meet last Wednesday, May 7.
Blittle placed first in the varsity girls’ 1600-meter run with a time of 6:04. Also competing were Peyton Price (6:39) in fourth, Alcorn (6:48) in fifth, and Broadwell (6:51) in sixth.
Charlotte Kirby took first in the varsity girls’ pole vault with a mark of 7-6.
The Lady Dukes placed second in the varsity girls’ 4×800-meter relay with a time of 11:10.
Hutton took fourth in the varsity girls’ 800-meter run with a time of 2:40, followed by Kayla Turner (2:44), Mary VanFossen (2:46), Sylvester (3:06) and Camille Reyes (3:34).
Laci Austin placed fourth overall in the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 14.45.
GHS placed third in the varsity boys’ 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:42 and fourth in the varsity boys’ 4×100-meter relay with a time of 47.18.
Brad Bellinger placed fourth overall in the varsity boys’ 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.34.
Austin Halterman placed fifth overall in the varsity boys’ discus finals with a mark of 116-8. He was followed by Mohammed Erraji (111-2) and James Dubay (99-5).
