GHS tennis teams roll over Kecoughtan

The Gloucester High School girls’ and boys’ tennis teams defeated their Kecoughtan opponents last Thursday, with the Lady Dukes winning, 8-1, at GHS and the Dukes sweeping their match, 9-0, in Newport News.

Christine Riddett, #1 seed for the Gloucester girls, beat Cassie Ardern in straight 6-2 sets, second seed Olivia Edwards won over Christina Aspili 6-0, 6-3 and third seed Nicolle Conry prevailed 6-1, 6-0. At fourth seed, Hope Warren battled Victoria Vernet and won 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Katie Masiak beat Taylor McCovy 6-0, 6-2 and sixth seed Jordan Simpson defeated Yuri Sheppard 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, the first-seed team of Riddett and Edwards defeated Ardern and Aspili, 8-3, and third seeded Warren and Rebecca Bish won, 8-1, over McCovy and Sheppard. The only Gloucester loss was at second-seed doubles, where Masiak and Simpson fell, 8-3.
