The Gloucester High School swim team competed in the season opener on Dec. 2 at Hampton Aquaplex. In spite of a limited roster for the girls’ team, Gloucester as a whole delivered multiple record-setting swims.
The boys’ medley relay team of Jacob English, Will Minnich, Blake Walters and Jake Gross and the 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Camden Hoercher, Gross, Tristan Buswell and Minnich both broke school records. Hoercher also set an individual record, posting a split of 1:02.71 in the freestyle relay.
Individually, he and Minnich both broke the previous 200-yard individual medley team record in the same heat with Hoercher ultimately taking ownership of the new record.
Blake Walters broke his own school record in the 100-yard butterfly, only to have Hoercher beat it in the following heat. In addition, Minnich shattered the school record for the 100-yard breaststroke.
