The Gloucester High School swim team continued to show progress during its second meet of the season on Dec. 16 at Hampton Virginia Aquaplex. The boys’ team earned a win against Bruton, defeating the Panthers, 47.5-29.5. The Dukes also competed against Poquoson and Tabb, falling by scores of 62-25 and 62-24, respectively. The Lady Dukes suffered a close loss, 36-30, to Poquoson. The girls also fell to Tabb, 62-21, and Bruton, 80-11. Despite the losses, the Lady Dukes showed noticeable improvement with several swimmers recording significant time drops. At the meet, Abby Polk set a new school record in the girls’ 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:11.40. Will Minnich broke the boys’ record in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:55.95. The boys’ 400-yard freestyle relay team of Tristan Buswell, Blake Walters, Aidan Luechauer and Minnich also established a new school mark by finishing the race at 4:45.38.
