The Gloucester High School swim team competed in the Region 4A Championship meet last Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Brittingham-Midtown Aquatic Center in Newport News. The boys’ team placed sixth overall, while the girls’ team placed eighth. Six school records were broken by the boys during the meet. Jacob “Scottie” English, Will Minnich, Jake Gross and Tristan Buswell set a new mark for the 200-yard medley; Minnich, Gross, Buswell and Aidan Luechauer broke the school record in the 200-yard free relay; Minnich broke school records in the 200-yard freestyle, the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke; and English captured a new mark in the 100-yard backstroke. As the program looks ahead to next season, new swimmers are encouraged to consider joining the team. The GHS swim team welcomes athletes of all experience levels, from seasoned club swimmers to students interested in trying competitive swimming for the first time.
