GHS softball improves to 6-1

Gloucester High School varsity softball players downed visiting Menchville, 11-2, Tuesday as the Dukes twice put together five-run innings. The win raised Gloucester to 6-1 on the season. 

The Lady Dukes took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Courtney Hall led off with a triple. One out later, Kirsten Greene hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Hall. Menchville took a brief 2-1 lead in the third inning before Gloucester exploded for five third-inning runs. 

With one out in the third, Malaika Rilee walked and advanced to second on a well-executed hit-and-run single from Bridget Motley. Jessica Hogge followed with a two out RBI single and Mackenzie Smith added a two-RBI single to push the lead to 4-2. Greene topped off the rally with a booming triple to left field to drive in Smith and Hall and stretch the lead to 6-2.

The Dukes continued to roll offensively as Motley drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single to centerfield and Laura Tobin drove in Rilee for a 9-2 ...
