GHS netters remain atop standings

The Gloucester High School girls got by Woodside 5-4 on Tuesday to remain at the top of the Peninsula District tennis standings.

The Dukes’ first- and second-seed players, Christine Riddett and Olivia Edwards, each won their singles matches in straight 6-0 sets. Gloucester third seed Nicolle Conry won 6-1, 6-1 and fourth seed Hope Warren won 6-0, 6-2. Katie Masiak lost at fifth seed 4-6, 4-6 and sixth seed Jordan Simpson battled to a 6-6 set but lost the tiebreaker 2-7.

 

In doubles, Riddett and Edwards swiftly won 8-0 to seal the match win. Masiak and Conry fell 8-5 and Warren and Rebecca Bish had a lengthy match but lost 11-9.
