GHS Marching Dukes wrapping up season

The Gloucester High School Marching Dukes are preparing for their last competition of 2024, to be held at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at the Williamsburg Marching Band Showcase at Wanner Stadium.

In other appearances, the band attended the VBODA State Marching assessment last weekend and scored straight superiors. The band also took first place in the 4A category at a competition held on Saturday at Tallwood High School, Virginia Beach.

On Friday night, the Marching Dukes performed their last football game of the season. Seniors Raelynn Hefferon, East Melanson, Angelique Jarrett, Sheppard Crowell, Emma Swain, Fatima Mayorga, Kris Burgess, Nick Dempsey, Lucas Robertson and Isabella Cortez were honored.

Earlier this season, Gloucester hosted 14 bands for its fifth annual Bands Along the Bay competition. The band’s color guard and musicians worked the competition alongside 150 volunteers who helped with everything from registration and parking to guiding bands and running ticket sales.

Many local businesses supported the competition, including Gloucester Toyota, Phillips Energy, Middle Peninsula Golf Carts, ACI Fire & Safety, Andrews Funeral Home, The Closing Shop, Gloucester U-Do-It Laundry, Dermatology Consultants of Gloucester, and Mid-Atlantic Technology Services.

The GHS Marching Dukes will perform again in the Gloucester Christmas and Holiday Parade on Dec. 7.
